Dagny Baczyńska Kissas

Pianist, composer and theoretician of music, from the family of Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, the famous Polish poet of the Second World War.

Dagny Baczyńska-Kissas performs as a pianist at home and abroad, where she performs solo and chamber recitals.

She has performed at the Royal Łazienki Park, at the Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle in Słupsk, at the Warsaw Festival, at the Warsaw Music Society and at the Pelion Festival in Greece. Her repertoire includes songs from the baroque to the present. The artist usually specializes in the performance of F. Chopin music and contemporary music.

She graduated from the Frederic Chopin Warsaw Academy of Music: Piano Department in the class of Prof. B. Kawalla, Music Theory and Postgraduate Studies at the Piano Department in the class of Prof. Andrzej Stefański.

A participant in artistic pianistic competitions, such as, edition of the 15th and 16th International Piano Competition. F. Chopin in Warsaw, in the IV International Piano Competition F. Liszta in Wrocław, as well as in national competitions for them. F. Chopin.

She has taken part in master piano courses by K. Kenner, W. Mierżanowa, K. Radziwonowicz, B. Kawalla, P. Eicher, T. Herbut, J. Riber, J. Olejniczak, T. Chmielewski, and R. Augustyn.

Dagny Baczyńska-Kissas also works as a composer, dealing in the piano musical sense. Her works include “Noc” for orchestra, “Torture” for choir, miniatures for violin and piano, organ and many other piano pieces inspired by philosophical, historical and religious themes, presented in Poland and abroad. Her most important works and cycles of piano music are: Misteria Antiqua Polonia, cycles: “Visions”, “Star suite”, Preludes-Poems, Preludes-Etudes, Preludes-Paintings, Preludes-Impressions, “Prayers”, Fantasies on piano: “Husaria” or “Dies Irae”, Fantasy on the theme of the National Anthem Bogurodzica, “Christ the Saviour”, “Ecce Homo”, Polonaises – “Pro Patria” series, Nocturnes, Impressions, Bucolics, Suites.

Some of her earlier works are on the artist’s award winning albums.

Dagny Baczyńska-Kissas is interested in the theory of music, studying the connections between piano interpretation and ballet interpretation. She has written theoretical articles.
